Another newbie that wants a 110

Having sold my SIII a year ago life has not been the same. Although my clothes are a lot cleaner and my knuckles are not quite as scuffed I am considering getting back into another landy. Something slightly more usable and modern like a Defender 110 TD5.

I would need to use the car daily for short journeys and a long run down to Hertfordshire from Lancashire once a month (400 mile round trip) What are the TD5's like for this sort of work and what are the real running costs. Based on my SIII experience I know any brick shaped land rover will be hell on the motorway but I can sort of live with that once a month.

Any views would be much appreciated.

Although a disco would probably be the more sensible choice I really want a defender. Still craving the retro looks of the SIII.
Mpg wise that seems fairly reasonable......ish. What are the servicing costs like and how often is recommended.
