I noticed my box was a little slow going into reverse with a little clunk and going down from second to first it felt a little weird so I booked it in Saturday for a gearbox oil and filter but guess what drove off tonight and 2 miles down the road it went into limp mode with transafe fail message I code read it and got gear monitoring 5 I cleared the codes and it drives as before but transafe still shows on the dash I also noticed it will start while in drive please any help

That sounds like the A Clutch is slipping...

There is a bearing between two clutch drums (B and C I think) and this has a tendancy to break up, this then causes the Clutch pack to move axially along the shaft and this movement tears the O ring underneath the A Clutch causing hydraulic pressure to leak away and as such the A Clutch starts to slip, the Gearbox monitors the various shaft speeds etc in the box and if there is a mismatch over a certain amount it goes into failsafe mode to prevent burning the clutch pack out.

Drain the oil, drop the pan and check the condition of the fluid and magnets....thats the first step!

Good news is, aslong as the A Clutch isn't burnt out, the repair is simple (new bearing and O ring) but if the box is off, you may as well change the TQ, and all the O rings and such in the box as it is only something you wanna do once!

Also as mentioned above, do check all the wiring tothe box as this can cause problems (as Wil Says)....

Well I added a litre of oil today it made no difference so it's getting an oil and filter tommorow if it's still the same a gearbox rebuild with upgraded valve block and convertor £1560 oh dear

Td6 there was no debri in the box but it was the wrong filter so we fitted the right filter and new oil I drove it 30 ish miles no problems I then had the gearbox reset drove off and now it going into limp mode but the code has changed from " code 55 gear 5 to code 37 gear 5 I'm stumped
