So today i started to give the truck a service.

When changing the air filter, i was a bit concerned that the previous owner had bent the filter and stuffed it into the box in such a way that it was effectively free flowing without any filtering.

I changed the plugs as well, again previous owner had tightened them to the torque of wheel nuts, and stripped the thread on cylinder 1. The plugs were covered in thick black soot with bright yellow top electrodes.

Took her out for a quick spin, and she was misfiring, chugging and down on power. I removed the air filter completely, and it now runs much smoother but obviously this isn't the best remedy!

Any ideas? All the tubes from the plenum seem ok at first glance.

Well the first advice with any v8 is to strip the whole plenum including all breathers and the flame trap and wash out thoroughly.

Once it's all squeaky and back together, consider changing the rotor arm and dizzy cap for new genuine only items.

Then see what happens.

Filter on or off shouldn't make any difference, so that perhaps suggests some kind of breather issue...

Thanks, i'll definately give that a try! Is it potentially the air flow sensor? I've just seen the price of a replacement and still not recovered.

Could be anything, airflow meter potentially, ecu maybe, anything.

Do a search and there are threads about the airflow meter and how to test it.

Also you should have this thread in the v8 section!
