Hello,
I know, its been plenty written about different noises coming from the defender, but this is different..
The car is Defender 1999 Td5 110 StationWagon with 2inch lift

After a major service, the car started to make 2 sets of weird clanking noises. During the service, lt230 transmission was replaced, replaced front diff, rear diff, propshafts and got the r380 reburished by a specialist from an oem kit.

The noises can be heard at about 80kmh when selecting neutral or just by depressing the gas pedal. Its a noise coming from the middle of the car and its a mix of clanking and clicking.

The next set of noises are following - at 30kmh there is a clicking noise when clutch pedal is pressed and gear is selected. The clicking is heard at regular frequency, depending on vehicle speed, not engine speed. Noise stops when selecting neutral, with clutch the pedal still pressed...

I took of both transmission and gearbox out for inspection and even called a specialist to see. Thy both seem fine
Please advise. Any pointing towards a problem is appreciated and will be helpful.

As a starting point I would check the transmition brake shoes and handbrake cable sysytem.
Thanks. Transmission brake occured to me at first, while doing the diagnostics and prior taking the gbox and trany off.
I excluded the brake, because the sound hasnt change while slightly pulling the handbrake lever while the noises were present. Is this a correct assumption?

Thats a good one.
Though, the first thing was I loosen the handbrake shoe adjuster, the sound hasnt changed.
Sadly, gearbox is out so its unable to test anything else with the brake drum. Tomorrow I will send the main gearbox to a specialist, he will take it apart and inspect.
The weirdest thing is, that the noises stop when neutral is engaged but showup once selecting a gear. And its only present in movement. Dont hear any ratling or clicking when neutral on trans is selected and I rew through all 5 gears.

Selector is fully home in high. Sound is predent in both hi and lo
Front propshaft is new and phasing is same as one other props.
The long and short screw mismatch I am aware of, thats not causing the issue.

2 things id check after changing a t/box is uj orientation ie phasing of props ,and top front stud securing t/box to g/box just under t/box high low lever, often a too long one is fitted
Ok, so I took the gearbox out and had it checked by a specialist. All is fine.
The Defender has a 2inch lift, what angle or tooth would be a proper phasing for the front prop? Its currently at 45 degree - bought new OEM hardy spicer prop few month ago
Thanks

Ok, issue fixed! Both sounds dissapeared after replacing the front propshaft for a wide angle prop.. I think its the D2 prop, as it has one double joint. The mounting on transfer case side also had to be changed to suit the prop. The replacement was a straightforward job.
Car runs smooth like new.
Thank you all for advice
