Yup I agree. Correct gear selection un speed is very important. Full power un spinning wheels int as good.

Just shows how important it is to pick your lines carefully and limit wheel spin. The onboard camera shows nothing special but barely a change in engine note, did the driver do it in 1st gear at tickover?

I rekon he was probably doing about 1500rpm and gradually gave more gas to retain the revs as it got steeper.

What a great clip ..... it reminded me of a top gear episode where all these really expensive 4x4's were miserably failing up a trial ...... then along came an old git in a 1950's series 1 landrover .... with skinny little tyres...it was laughable ..... and it walked it ..... the driver recond it was a combination of light weight and good tyre bite from the nimble treads......just goes to show. Fantastic...

we all know it was a defender that you lot hijaked, then fastened the freelander bonnet to the front and filmed from the windscreen

Oh yeah and if you look closely you can just make out a little pink curly tail in the corner of the screen. Its defo a tratter

I'm sure a Defender, Disco or Rangy could have done it if they were driven correctly, although it is surprising that so many were driven by people who appeared not to know what they were doing

Yeh yeh yeh!!! Funny how the one that made it was the expert and all the others were not!! What if the facts may have been all the others were experts in vehicles that let them down and the solo guy was a novice in a Freelander that just took a walk in the park for him! Ha ha Freelander goes where no other Landrover can! So funny.

You can blame the vehicles if you want, except when you look at the video there is nothing there that would stop a Defender, Disco or Rangy getting up there if it was driven properly.

What the video shows is SOME Landrovers not making it up the hill.
Possibly there were several others not on the film that DID make.

The first point of the film is that Freelanders CAN do the hill climb muddy stuff as well as the tratters.

Second point is that just owning a tratter is not enough - you have to have skill to drive it.

The only thing that stops my Freelander is the lack of ground clearance for the deep ruts.

I would also have to add that I can get up the 'slippery slopes' better with my Auto TD4 than I could with the Manual TD4 I had before.

Great film though - tratter owners take note!

That's correct, roadbooks are real fun when driving a Td4 auto. On a good tickover you can take a lot of obstacles.

This is my Freelander. Its a Td4 Auto and its unbelievable what happend that day.

I was the only one with a freelander and nobody believed that it would climb.
