Hi guys, looking for some help please!

A few months ago the key fob stopped working so I took the motor to a specialist and had it plugged in and sorted that the alarm etc only responds to the physical key and door lock. This solved the problem at the time. Just had the car up for a few days replacing the front shocks, with the key in the ignition the whole time but not turned any. The battery earth lead was disconnected. After sorting everything (reconnecting the battery etc) I went to turn the key but the wee red light on the dash that flashes with the alarm was on permanently and when I turned the key nothing happened. I took the key out the ignition barrel and locked the door, as I did this the alarm beeped once. I then unlocked it and opened the door...the alarm went off. Relocking the car produces the single beep and unlocking it and opening the door sees the alarm activated. My question is...how do I sort it..!?

After spending 4 days solid working on the old girl to get her through MOT I'm now just about ready to drive the friggin' thing into the sea so any ideas would be welcome!
Cheers

There's nothing wrong with the alarm if it activates when unlocking with a key, the system is voltage sencing therefore activation of central locking voltage drops so sounding an alarm.

The beep could the mis-lock sound you get when the alarm is set but a door is open, if so, as u have been working under the bonnet I suggest u look at the sensor switch, and ensure the bonnet is operating it.
The sensor switches for the doors is within the locks so a bit more involved with any fault finding.

Hi, +1 for the above + maybe the fact that the battery was disconnected reset somehow the BCU(even it shouldn't) to a previous setting and it jumped out from the "always disarm with key" mode that's why the alarm is going off, about the immobiliser replace the battery in the fob cos you need a fully working fob to be able to start it due to the passive remobilisation coil signal, anyway it can be other reasons too and in cases like that the only certain way to start it is by using the EKA code sequence, if you dont know the EKA code you can get it free from a main dealer based on ownership evidence, the EKA will make it start but you'll need to use it every time after the ignition was off for more than 5 minutes so you must fix it after that... though it's enough to start it once and drive it into the sea :D

Cheers gents got it sorted now with the EKA code. Got a replacement fob on the way as well, £6 off flebay, can't go wrong!

Thanks again.

It just said "repair kit" so you're probably right. The only thing wrong with the fobs I currently have is the wee rubber buttons are gone and the actual connectors on the circuit board inside are gone...so hopefully with at least a new shell I can bodge something together :D Also just found that I have bashed one of the brake pipes by the nearside shock tower whilst replacing the shock absorber, so having to sort that tomorrow. I swear whenever I fix anything on it I seem to find more problems with it. Joys of Land Rover ownership I s'pose. :)
