good evening all,

having trouble with engine warning light coming on and loosing throttle pedal(not literally)

last time its was the fuel pump after replacing nearly everything beforehand eg,
  • injector wiring harness
  • new throttle pedal
  • fuel filter
  • checked ecu for oil or water
  • air flow sensor
  • new k&n air filter
  • crank sensor
driving about normally (no cattle trailer) 3 months since the last episode and engine warning light comes on and no throttle! changed fuel pump again thinking I'd run it low a few times so maybe my fault! but with new pump on I drove for about 20mins and lights back on again. it runs fine just no throttle, would the fuel filter be the cause of this or do I have to fork out for a pressure regulator? any advise greatly appreciated and a big thanks in advance :)

with the management light coming on the first step would be to get it plugged in on a diagnostic pooter as it should help at least point in the right direction.

when the light comes on is it just losing power or will it not rev even if static?

I got the recovery chap to plug it in and it doesn't come up with anything, it starts and runs but no revs at all from pedal and as soon as I press the pedal the light comes on.

it could be a faulty throttle pot or it could be that the throttle pot has lost its 5v feed.

My money is on the lost feed. Look for signs of chaffing in your wiring loom. The same feed also goes to the MAF and MAP sensors I believe.

is this an intermittent fault or is it there all the time?

if it's there all the time did you program the throttle pot to your ecu cos the later ecu's can use 2 or 3 track throttle pots.

hi guys thanks for your response,
I've had a look today and wiring loom to pedal looks fine, the new potentiometer is only 3 months old its was the complete pack with pedal and the lot from landrover can it go already?

I didn't get it programed mind, just plugged it in. I changed the fuel filter this morning and I bled it up ect, and it let me rev the engine but sounded rough for a while then was fine. as I went up a slight hill, and went under load, the engine didn't put up a fight and went into limp mode with the engine warning light back on. got home eventually had a brew and went back to it and soon as I start the engine the light is on all the time. :(
I cant understand for it to be absolutely fine for 3 months after the first episode then go back to square one!

if the light is on, it needs plugging in to have fault codes read, if its a defender i have a reader but maybe to far away for you
