angle grinder

hi everyone I need to buy a new angle grinder and was wondering if anyone had any advice on which model to buy.

Its all about the quality of discs unless you're spending top dollar.

Discs make the world of difference, the cheaper, the quicker they deteriorate and are more likely to flay.

Cheap grinders ( i assume you're talking about 4" grinders and not 9" ) will have the bearings fail under heavy load, but saying that i paid about £20 for mine some years ago and with some care it's still going strong

Noticed Homebase were doing Bosch ones for 20quid, had blooming discontinued em though so I had to buy a Halfords one. Seems ok.900w so powerul enough.

Had a B+Q one before and it was dire. Mind you I did basically cut up a Range Rover with it.lol Think you can get Black and Decker Ones for about 30ish. Didnt realise that otherwise Id of got one.

Oh and if you dont already know, if your cutting try some of the paper thin discs, make a world of difference.

Only thing I would suggest is get one with the button on the side, not on the top. Ones with the button on the top make it really awkward to cut as your hand and wrist is at the wrong angle.

I burned out a mate's B&D about 15 years ago and bought a 41/2" Bosch for myself. It's been seriously abused and it's still going strong. The really thin plasma cutting discs are really good for cutting steel. They're about twice the price at Machine Mart but I think they're worth it.

We go through a lot at the forge, but Bosch outlast anything else. Quality discs do make a difference. We got a bunch or DeWalts, thinking that they would be at least as good as Bosch right? Wrong. They suck, and are expensive.

Bosch or Makita. Not Hitachi..****e.

i have a hitachi one (was on offer) but i am yet to kill me old power devel i got when i was 15...... its now been relegated to being used as a wirebrush but the ol thing keeps going

Ive got a black and decker bought for £40ish 20 odd years ago still goin strong, picked up another b&d earlier this year to save changing discs all the time £11 from tesco end of line, so got one for the farm as well, so they dunt keep usin mine all the time.

I tend to buy bosch professional, but it all comes down to how often you use it.

I once bought a 4 1/4 inch angle grinder from Machine Mart for £14.99 or something, it worked fine, a bit toyish but the motor was powerful enough and the ground and cut as much as I asked of it, for a occasional user it was probably ideal, it got stolen or I would probably still have it. It even came with spare brushes.

I then got the bosch ones and have done a bulkhead change, chassis removals, disco rebuild, fencing work, general metal work and don't see an end to it's use yet, deffinatly worth the money but only because I use them a lot.

I have abused a Bosch professional for 8 years, cutting, grinding and wire brushing. They are brilliant. Two years ago i bought another one as it was on offer. i have not taken it out of the box yet as the old one keeps going. Come on then!!!!!!!!!!! what are the best cutting blades and who makes them ????

thanks for the info i have seen a makita and machine mart for around £58 another question 240 volt or 110 as i have a transformer and before anyone says its (not the kids toy)

i have a bosch 110v grinder in the garage from where i used to work, fook knows if it still works not tried it in years lol
