Hey everyone,

I'm finally back after being away for some time, and I must say it feels good!:)

Anyway, I have a key fob issue which I will explain.

While I was away, the wife was using my 4.6 P38 and let the battery on her 4.0 P38 run down to nothing. I have just put a new one on it as it was suspect anyway, and had the old keycode lockout message appear.

Well I input the EKA with all the indicators flashing etc, and it seems to have accepted it. When I go to start it, i get the engine disabled message which tells me to press the remote or enter the code. Pressing the remote doesn't work and I cannot seem to be able to sync the fob in the usual way in the door, despite changing the batteries. I imagine this is not a lock mechanism issue as the EKA went in OK.

Now yesterday, whenever I opened the drivers door the alarm would go off. Today when I open it or close it, the siren chirps twice but no alarm unless I open the bonnet. The alarm led flashes at about 1 second intervals.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on?

The two chirps are telling you that the alarm has gone off. Have you tried pressing the button on the fob with the key in the ignition and in position II ?

I have tried pressing the buttons while it's in position 2, as the prompt says after Engine Disabled.

I have read on here that sometimes leaving the key at position 2 then connecting the battery up might work, any thoughts?

i can tell you now that the eka has not gone in correctly, otherwise it wouldn't say engine disabled!

did you follow the eka process to the letter?

is it uk spec or us spec?

Hi John how are you?

I dont have the BeCM license at the moment, I think I may need to buy it. Anyway, I have tried the security learn mode a few times on the FM, but I'm not sure I'm doing it right. I get the "the system is now in Learn mode, please turn igition off for a few seconds" etc, but it doesnt seem to make a difference. When I go into the input page, it says that it's not in learn mode.

Whats it like down there ? Must be Summer time.
Try giving the OBD socket a clean with switch cleaner and try resetting the ignition again.
You could also try what Gav says and also a key resynch in the meantime.
Could be that the engine ecu has lost the handshake from the becm.

Ah so that maybe the issue then, that the EKA hasn't gone in correctly. I suppose the only way to tell is if the central locking works when you do the final unlock?

Incidentally, do all the windows have to be set to be able to do the EKA? The passenger door is waiting to be fixed after some **** stoved it in, and I cant put the window down to set it?

OK just been and tried the EKA input again and cant seem to get any response. Tried the 4 locks first, but no indicator flashes at all. I still get the 2 chirps from the alarm when i open or close the door.

Out of interest (sorry just a quick question here) but if your switch pack had packed up and this happend to you would you be knackered in getting it fixed Gav? and then have to get another one before it could be sorted.

I think I am in need of one as mine doesn't work for some reason now, but thought if this happend to me I would be in the sh@t

As I suspected Gav, thank you for clarifying the window set thing. If I buy the BeCM license for the Faultmate, will i be able to re-sync the fob using that without setting the window?

I guess I will just have to hurry the bodyshop on to get the door fixed, so that I can get the window set.......and then sync the fob.........to then remobilise the engine.............to get the car started:mad::mad:

I had the dreaded 'EKA'& door switch problem a year ago, & & would'nt accept it 'cos it 'churped' twice, turned out to be the bonnet not being closed properly, so if you hear the 2 'tweets', something isnt closed & until it is, you won't be able to proceed.

Syncmate??????

FFS the wife is on my case again as she wants her car back. Looks like I may have to try and knock the door skin out so I can put the window down to set it. The bodyshop down here (yes, the bodyshop) are glacial at best in their ability to fix the door.

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
...........so went to take the door apart at lunch time (our time), and the fecking door wont open. I imagine that until the EKA has been input, the locks are inoperable?????

So I'm in catch 22 situation now, I cant put the EKA in without the windows being set, but cant set the window until I get the door open and bend the door skin to get the window down, to then be able to input the EKA.

These MFing cars are enough to drive a man to drink, oh they already have.

So does anyone know how to either set a window without puting it right down then up again? Or whether you can somehow get the EKA accepted without setting the windows?

Would buying the BeCM software for my Faultmate Extreme help?

ive no idea with the faultmate, probably will.

not sure what th damage is on the door but can you get a dent puller suction thingy (bodyshop should have one) and pull it out just enough to get the window down.

i know theres a bar inside the door, to be honest its probably cheaper to import a new door.

what colour is it?

the door should open without the eka in but you will have to pull the sill button up and open from inside!

if you use the missus to knock the door out that'll stop her moaning and fix yer car, two stones and one bird!!

Morning all, (yes it's still morning here)

Well managed to pull the door out a bit using thin rope through the trim holes. Tore the door skin slightly, but hey it's have a complete new door soon.

Well, I pulled the skin out, jumped in put the key in the ignition, the doors all unlocked, and the thing started :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

No EKA needed at all:eek::eek:. Naturally I thought WTF???? Well I have now put it down to the great P38 god of electrics. You know, the one who can be very very good or very very bad.

Thank you all for your help and guidance during this saga.
