A few months ago I bought a 90 on Ebay. Never had a proper Landy before and wanted a runabout to save my main car getting buggered up driving off the verges on the single track roads where I live. Saw one that looked OK and was near me and went to see it. Looked OK to me but I really didn't know what I was looking at. Kicked a few tires, heard it start and thought sod it, and parted with cash. This is what I ended up with.

Realised on the way home that the seats were bloody awful. Not sure what they were but they weren't Land Rover seats. Decided I had better replace them so I ordered from Exmore Trim. All good until I realised that I had to wait a few weeks for delivery. This is what it looked like then.

Then I had to go away to work for a month. Stuck away with just the internet for company I joined this site. Started to think that perhaps I should give it a paint as well as the new seats. Then started reading all the rebuild threads. Bugger, looks like I am going to have to take it apart now :)

If you've read a few rebuild threads you'll know where to look for the worst corrosion.
Good luck with it. Hope it doesn't turn up too many nasties.
keep us updated :)

Thanks, yours has been one of many threads I have been reading. It has given me the confidence to do a lot more. I won't be stripping the engine down to individual molecules like you have though :)

Good evening Sakara and welcome to Landyzone. I think the seats might need more than a re-trim. The beauty of the LR Defender range is that you can quite happily do the refurbishment "on the go", especially if you have an alternative form of transport to fall back on.:p When something falls off, you're going to need to put it back. That's the way of the Land Rover, unless you're buying a "pretend" oneo_O

Enjoy

Fingers crossed you don't have to. :)
I didn't have a choice. :( (other than putting a lump in a knew nothing about)
The bodywork is all very do-able. I did it the same way, read through threads on here and asked questions when stuck.

It is worth mentioning some of the things I have found out about this since I got it. Or at least didn't realise from the ebay listing.
The engine has been swapped and it now has a Disco 200tdi engine in it. The back axel has also been swapped for a disco one. I have crawled under it and hit it all over with a rather large hammer and everything still seems sound. I think I have done OK. There is still sign of paint underneath on some bits so it has been rebuilt in the recent past.

One thing I was told about was a leak in power steering fluid. When I looked closer I can see they have made the only sensible repair. Wrapped a rag round it and cable tied it on. :D

The roof might be low, but it's way better than working on the drive. That's a decent looking garage. :)

Nice repair on that hose...by the PO...LOL

and an electric fan.

I have perused your selection of Landrover Tools no1, and have decided you do not have one large enough to qualify.........) hint , they are visible in the bottom photo in post#5. )

Good luck with it.

Cheers

That will be LR tool no.1 then. Most useful tool in the box......:D

Cheers
Ha, ha, I saw those lined up along the back wall. ;)

Care to elaborate? Is it good or a problem. Said I was new to all this
It's the big plastic multi blade fan, driven from the belt on the front of the engine. It always spins, to a greater or lesser extent, via a viscous coupling. Often it's swapped for an electric fan, which only comes on when needed. For some reason they left yours on.

I have just found the first of the rust. Once I removed the bumper the drivers side looked like this

But the passenger side looked like this

Not too bad really but there is a lot still to uncover.
