Looks like my luck ran out:mad:

1991 3.9 RRC, had a mystery misfire getting progressively worse but only when cold. Then no start; jiggle dizzy cap and wires to coil ran sweet as.

Today ran through a few checks and found 18v at battery - voltage regultor not doing its' job, so changed alternator, then no start. Removed coil found a broken connector - replaced. Cleaned all parts checked ground all good, ran more checks, pick up resistance O.K. but replaced ignition amplifier - all is well, fired on first turn of the key, checked timing, all is well, checked replacement alternator output, O.K. a little low at 13.8v but good enough. Happy again.

Went to go to pub for a pint, thought kill or cure gave it a bootful, looking good motor pulling hard at close to 5,000rpm up hill then pop! nothing, dead:eek:. Tried it on the key, motor spins nicely but no sparky sparky. Phoned a friend to get towed home  Rangey forlorn at kerbside:( unexpected spannering tomorrow:mad:

Anyone got any ideas? (sorry for the long post, but this is...well, a Range Rover!)

did the amplifier have a metal heatsink face? if so it wants conducting paste spread thinly over it-or they cook
(pc world or maplin etc)

Yeah, I know and the appropriate silicon grease was in place. This one has me stumped but I'll tear into it tomorrow and see if I can get it licked. This is really frustrating, I know my way round the ignition and injection system but right now a fuel can and a match feel tempting:eek:.
