Broke down last night no drive, c.a.t.s came out put the fl on lorry and took to there garage in ipwsich and it look like clutch has had it, not good news it may have to go now..

Part and parcel of owning a Gaylander, either way you should get rid of it. Either flog it as is or fix it your self and sell for a bit more. Then get a proper Land Rover which will break down more often but is fixable with a Halfords tool kit and some debris found at the side of the road and won't cost any where near as much!

They don't break down much at all (proper Land Rovers :D ), had mine coming on 3 years now (and its 27 years old) and have never been left at the side of the road. Touch wood I will never have to either! Way I see it, you look after yer landy and it will look after you (same with all vehicles I guess). Nevertheless they still have their problems. What doesn't?

Yeah that's true actually. In the 3 years I had my Defender on the road the only thing that let go was the water pump, and even then I limped back to the garage.

Edit: Oh yeah and the clutch slave cylinder, miles away from home and with a car on the A-frame. 2nd gear all the way (mountainous terrains here!) but got home! Albeit 4am, but still wasn't stranded!

yeah things go, but hell, they're old. The slave cylinder had cracked in half where it bolts onto the bell housing and it still worked (though changed it as soon as I saw it  ). Must've been as old as the 90, sure as hell looked it. It's amazing really how long the original stuff lasts considering how Defenders are used and how little care many people give them.
