well i spent most of yesterday doing bodywork on the flambulance. My father in law had given me a load of metal forming tools a while back which i thought i would never use but huzzah! they were brilliant. Managed to get most of the dents out of the aluminium on the sides and repair one of the front wings. Much better than bodging loads of filler into it.
The bulkhead is a decision that needs to be done. Both sides are pretty well gone... dont know wether to repair or replace yet.
A front chassis crossmember is also badly corroded and needs replacing.
The front suspension is seized solid. But the parabolics will sort that.
I bought a 12.5 hp pressure washer the other day for £30 (it was supposedly fooked but it was only an o ring!) going to be attacking it with that to blast off loads of crud.
About to order some paint as i want to get the ambulance body painted and done so the drive doesnt look so bad. We like either RAF blue or camo biege. Any thoughts?

RAF blue especially if you might take it abroad, its a bit less ex-army looking.

Anyone seen any of the bodies for sale? We are going to be converting our s3 to a camper when we finish the 2a. Don't know if we are going to go ambulance or camper dormer. I know the dormers are about a 1k bit would be worth it. Just like the bit of extra room with the ambulance body. Although have been told they can be a bit top heavy and rough off road.

yeah theres a sticker that says "do not exceed 45mph" i quite like the chunkeh roll bars!
There is ALOT of weight in that rear body. Its something i would like to change. Any weight loss is going to be beneficial for everything! (most of all the longevity of my slightly iffy looking chassis)

well i went to move the amby last night as its so big its blocking the flood lights into the garden! its been sat for a week and i had lobbed a big yellow top optima in it as the battery when i first got it.
Flat as a pancake.

There is an electrical drain somewhere. No lights are on, but i can hear a solenoid clicking when the battery is attached so obviously something is energised.

The soundproofing/insulation appears to be solid rubber with the same water retention properties as Discovery soundproofing. remove it and you'll probably half the weight of the rear. Replace with 20mm Celotex or similar..

I put an ambulance body on the back of a series 3 ffr quite a few years back. Supposedly the anti roll-bars were fitted, as army chaps kept rolling them over in the field. I did thousands of miles in mine and found it quite stable though without them
