Thanks :) is there a pictorial guide on the half shaft replacement, I had a look but couldn’t spot anything definitive in the search bar, am I looking in the right place

Whip the wheel off, 5 bolts to take drive flange off, remove circlip pull shaft out and replace with new halfshaft, circlip, drive flange and bolts. You can use a flange bolt threaded into end of shaft to get more purchase.

Run a tap down the threads in the hub to clean em out and loctite your new bolts.

Smear a bit of grease on mating surfaces for seal. Its a paper gasket so not too wet or it'll rip.
Pack a bit of grease in the rubber end cap to slow water ingress.

Do 1 side at a time, that way the axle is on the pìss so you lose minimal axle oil when you remove flange.

USE A TORQUE WRENCH!

Britpart genuine parts shafts and flanges are fine for normal road and standard off road use. There's kits on eBay, John craddocks are good nd paddock spares.

But seeing as you've got warranty that's all academic I suppose

That’s great to know for next time thanks, yes I will use the warranty this time, but I guess the Engineer in me wants to understand what has gone wrong and what to look out for next time, and ultimately how to repair it mysef if possible :) :) thanks everyone. Can’t wait to get Rory back on the road again ☺️

Do you think you might have been driving home from the fells in difflock?

Na definitely wasn’t driving home in diff lock - didn’t have it out of high speed non diff lock since I picked it up.

The diagnosis was wrecked front diff... no idea what part of the diff, just that the garage looked inside and said there wasn’t much in there

Did they ask what you had been doing with it?

Yes, they asked if I had been off roading to which I honestly answered that I parked in the Walna Scar Park which is A sketchy car park, but I was parked between a Kia and a BMW 3 series - so it’s hardly off road if that makes sense. And then it was just road driving... Didn’t use the low speed of diff lock at all.

The guy who collected it seemed more concerned about the 70 miles on the motorway, suggesting they ‘aren’t designed for that’ :-/

That's an embarrassing thing to come out with  We know they are not specifically designed for motorway driving, but they do it right enough.
You expect them to ask questions, sensible ones, but at least it looks like they are going to fix it.
