hi there,
i have about £3k to spend and i am after a 200/300tdi defender 90 van and i cant seem to find one that is any good! iv been told i should get a reasonable one for that. iv been looking for ones arround or under 100k miles is that unrealistic?
cheers
karl

Yes..and theres nowt wrong with higher mileage. Rather 200k thats been looked after than 100k thats never had a service . Why are people obsessed about low mileage?? It means bugger all.

coz its hard to tell if it has been serviced if there isnt piles of paper, but the guy is telling you he has serviced it every 6k and has done all belts.. il start looking at higher mileage ones and see if the service history looks good.
cheers fella

Most landy owners do their own services so paperwork will be hard to find..just ask the questions and use your eyes..look for well greased swivels and uj's, how new do the filters look, how does the oil feel/smell/look..is the brake/clutch fluid clean..is there corrosion around the filter housings which could suggest they havent been moved for months..what are the injectors and pipework like..are the electrics tidy and not bodged together...etc etc..

i got service history with mine and 104kmiles.

the fact i could find out the date the cambelt was done was helpfull.that was it....

mid cornwall 4x4 use hammers and molegrips as they dont seem to have anyother tools.Rear crossmember in no way was an mot pass......
filler plugs destroyed by pliers etc....

1 shot in a swivelball houseing......
personally i will never get another dealer landy as they are ****e and they lie about doing serviceing.

Yeh you're right. Il just get out and get looking and poking stuff. Looks like il have to do abit of traveling about! There arnt a great deal of them arrond me.

buy mine! 200tdi, fully serviced and a 125,000 engine. they are out there but getting one that is sub 100,000 means it would have to be 93 or newer and there more like £3500...

Iv had my eye on that to be honest! The engine transplant and box whine and rust holes are the only off putting things.. I can't insure one with an engine change :-(

no rust holes mate! just 2 small ones in the vey bottom of bulkhead. chassis is rock solid! still registered as a NA

if you want a genuine 200tdi, under 100,000 you'll need more money! :p

I got a 200tdi 90 van in perfect condition with 12 months mot for under £2500. it has about 100,000 miles on it and all it needed was some t cut. If i didn't want to do so much off roading i could have left it exactly how i got it no problem. ur not being fussy you just have to be patient.
