Last night someone rung my bell and asked if l would l sell my Defender XS 90 the person was well dressed and did not seem like your average Car thieve (is there a particular look?). When l said no he apologised for any inconvenience and left. I have heard on various web sights that car thieves often do this . I have had my 90 for 6 months now and it has surprised me how many people come up to me and look around and quite often are Landy owners. I live on a main road plus l am about 100yds from a police head quarters. Hopefully l am worrying unduly.

ive heard of them coming to view when its up for sale to check out the security ,,then come back an nick it..i use a disc lock full wheel cover on mine plus a tracker..and a motion detect alarm ...hope im not tempting fate eh

Yes I think you are worrying unduly! It must be a very nice Defender! So take it as a compliment! I sometimes get asked if mines for sale but I'm not upping the Fluoxetin ( my medication) because of the interest it attracts lol :D

You could try smearing your motor with mud and cowsh!t, and pile a load of old silage skins in the back! :)
Tends to reduce unwanted attention! :D

Bud I reckon you are worrying unduly. There are lots of people out there who just like rare or quirky cars and want to either take a look at them or see if they are for sale. I have a sports car, a VW split screen and a kit car...plus of course the 90. Every time I fuel up someone will pass comment about each of the above and I have had offers to buy them too. Just this morning someone stopped outside my workshop and looked at my kit car and asked if it was for sale (as it goes it is but he had no idea of the value of the thing...)

As above...take it as a compliment

I know I've had someone turn up trying to buy my 1984 110 claiming it would be for his girlfriend. I live in the middle of nowhere in Norfolk. For the following few months we parked the car in front of it and its in the back garden anyway. I've since improved the security of it with more to come. I didn't let him see it closely.

Mine is like that most of the time, I think that attracts even more interest. I parked mine next to a newish shiny BMW X5 and mine was in its usual state of covered in mud. I was working opposite and couldn't help noticing people eyeing up my Defender and never gave the X5 a glance. I was down in the south of France camping. The Defender was covered in dust/sand and had towels hanging from it. We were in a coffee bar, some woman came up to us and told us the region we were from. She had seen my Defender there. The Farrier every time he visits us keeps asking me if I want to sell it. Doesn't seem to matter how old or beaten up they are, they still hold an interest.

Had a few knocks at my door (pikeys) asking if it was for sale. Also a few asks when I have been covered in ****e working on it from people passing by. I took it as a compliment then upped the security a lot....

nobody knocked my friends door. 2 months ago he was greeted with a sole broken ignition barrel sitting on his empty drive, he never heard a thing & his 300tdi 90 hasn't been seen sinse b******s

My scruffy old Series 2A station wagon attracts a lot of attention wherever it goes. Most people seem to love it despite it being a bit of a mess. I try never to leave it anywhere I can't see it and luckily I can park it in a garage at night in such a position that even though I've reversed it into it's slot I still have great difficulty getting it in or out. None of my mates will even attempt it.

Yes, that would have made me worry. I try and keep an eye on LR thefts and in the main it does seem to be quite regional. I think it's a good idea to fit whatever security you can tho. Obv its been said on here loads that none of it matters if thieves are just lifting up the cars and putting them on a truck etc. :(
