If voltage output is correct. There is a easy test. Get a spanner, hover it around the alternator. If it is magnetised then it is goosed.

Have a 3.9 Classic that is now flattening batteries,do they have a regulator separate or all in Alternator,Cheers
AFAIK the voltage regulator is inside the alternator.
If you have a Lucas A133, 80 amp unit, the regulator is really easy to change. While you are at it, you should change the brushes and check the bearings. The best bet by far is to take it to an auto electrician and ask them to test it and then put in new bearings, slip rings, brushes and regulator, the alternator will be like new and this is cheaper than getting a new alternator.

I got parts for my A133 from JCR Supplies http://www.jcrsupplies.co.uk
Was a pain getting the old bearings off, but worked ok. You will need fairly heavy duty soldering iron for the regulator change though.

Alternative get an exchange one from EuroCarParts. http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/L...7c61d9254d80e806b6c8a20439e77b72742069&000012
Thanks for the info, I am told there is a 100amp fuse in the line but tested alternator output and is zero so new alternator seems to be the way to go
