Logged on with an alternator Q and saw two similarly titled threads right at the top. Tis winter the season for alternator troubles?
I was driving to work this evening along the motorway when all of a sudden my battery light came on and the rev counter dial read zero. Checked the belt and that was still intact and running, nothing snapped or ceased.
I will have to wait for tomorrow for some daylight to take a proper look but what is the most likely problem here ... my guess is the alternator (battery was new last year).
If it is the alternator at fault is it feasible to repair on the cheap? I seem to remember reading a while back that there is a voltage regulator thingie on the back which can fail or maybe the brushes ?
I don't fancy spending out £100 on a new alternator if I can avoid it.
