Can anyone help me a mo'?

I had to renew some of the wiring to the alternator on my geriatric Series IIa/III, including up to the alternator plug.

Can someone just confirm the colour coding of the wires as they go into the plug? I have a horrible feeling I might have mixed two or them up.

It depends on what set up you have at the moment as the 2a didnt come with an alternator originaly.
If it has been left with the original wiring, and uses a acr type alternator then the larger of the two wires goes to the plus the smaller wire usually brown yellow goes to the small terminal on the alt and thsi is taking into a/c that the voltage reg has been taken out of the system and the wiring connected suitably . HTSH

Thanks. It's a bit of a Bitsa. S2a chassis etc but S3 engine, hence why it has an alternator.

There are three wires going into the alternator - a thick one in the middle and two thinner ones either side. I think I may have these two swapped around.

disconnect all wires from alt, make sure thay cant short to earth. switch on ign, the warning light should not illuminate. switch off ign, using led test light see which of 3 wires is live, two should be, the other will be exciter wire from ign warn light, this wire will go to ind position on alt the other two will go the plus terminal. HTSH :)

Lucas ACR plug. This is the one that has 2 big crimps and a normal 1/4"female "lucar" connector. In the alternator the two big terminals are joined together. These are the output and are connected directly to the battery + terminal. The smaller terminal is the exciter terminal and is connected via a small "load" like an idiot lamp or a resistor or both to a switched + supply.
You can if you wish connect this directly to battery+ but this will turn on the alternator to FULL power. Excellent for output but harsh on batteries and the poor alternator itself.
