It looks like my alternator is playing up despite fitting a new rectifier and regulator and wiring. The windings look somewhat charred and some of lacquer has gone and it doesn't push out more than 13V under load.

There is a range of prices for a suitable new A127 but loathe to spend too much so wonder if Bearmach is any good, or Britpart ?

Anyone been down this route with a suggestion?

Cheers.

Longest warranty.

Replaced mine in August when the reg failed & it decided to put out 19+ volts.
Cooked the battery & blew the fuses on the aftermarket immobiliser & the aftermarket radio/cd player.
Just what you need when you've just arrived in Cornwall on holiday.

Replaced the alt from my normal motor factor (I'm trade) in Leicester. Can't remember the brand but it wasn't one of your list & my youngest brought it down with him a few days later.
Battery from Tayna. Varta brand & much cheaper delivered than I could get A.N.Other makes at trade from the same motor factor - so a big vote for Tayna. Delivered in well under 24 hours.

New A127 alternator https://www.startermotor-alternator-store.co.uk/left-hand-lucas-a127-alternator-100-058-10144-p.asp and cables fitted. Starts much better now, 1-2 turns from cold, good voltages (12.6V unloaded, 13.8V engine running, 13.2-14.6V @2K engine and ancillaries) and no more flickering battery light.

I don't know if this is connected but for quite a while there has been a clicking noise coming from the engine with frequency related to revs. It isn't always there, louder at times than at others but no pattern to it. I thought it was a sticky follower and tried Redex but it still came and went.

Since replacing the alt the ticking noise has gone! It might not be connected and may reappear so I'll keep an ear out, but I read somewhere that a dodgy alt can make a clicking noise?

New one on me, but if the clicking stopped with the new alternator seems the logical assumption.
