Replaced the alternator tonight.
old one is original with 184k on it, wow,

new one has come with pulley on but the new pulley is smaller ??

any plus or minus's to look out for ??

shaft will spin faster but will the windings have been altered to suit ??

kicking out 14.3amps

:scratching_chin:

You sure your first one wasn't off a petrol?Diesels have smaller pulleys as rev less+ more torque to turn it.
Your 14.3 amps must mean 14.3 volts-amps should be much higher,if all electrickery swithed on

If the belt will fit, it should not be a problem, it will just start charging at lower revs. Windings are standard.
You could just swap the pulley

Assumed it was the original Alternator but it may well of came orf a petrol !!
the date on the alternator was 1995 on a 98 disco, ??

Did not have time to swap pulley but have kept a hold of it just in case.

I think they changed the pulley on later discos. I had a look last night as I'm buying a new aux belt. There are two lengths of belt listed for the two pulleys. I think it was done to improve charging.

Don't quote me on that!

exactly right there are 2 pulleys and 2 belts

Early 300tdi was a larger pulley and later they changed to a smaller pulley, there is 2 different belts smaller pulley takes a belt 15mm longer so not a lot, larger pulley will make your rev counter ( tachometer ) read lower on a disco as it picks up from the alternator, no issues with charging either way.
