As of this evening, it seems that my charge light on the dash is staying on when the ignition is switched off and the engine is stopped, does anybody have any ideas why this might be??

I heard it might be a rectifier diode shorting in the alternator in another thread but confirmation would be a good idea, the fan belt has been slipping/squeaking a little today but it has just had a new fan belt so i think that it might just need adjusting.

I dont think that it is an immediate problem as it doesn't seem to be flattening the battery but I am a little puzzled

Thanks in advance

James

If your alty light stays on, then the first suspect thing is the ignition switch, wiggle the key a bit see if it goes out.
Basically you have a + supply to one side of the ignition warning light when you shouldnt have, that + supply comes off the ignition switch.
Your alty may well be ok.

if the ignition light stay on and the oil light then problem's with ignition switch as the switch supplies both ,if ignition light stays on by it self with key removed would suspect alternator field diode (new alternator or replace field diode pack)
