I've lost the bottom bolt that holds the alternator in place on my 300tdi Disco 1996 auto. It fell out without me noticing (I did hear some strange noises for a few weeks beforehand), the vibration of the alternator flopping up and down on the bad country roads caused my belt tensioner stud to eventually snap off inside the alloy casting, I lost steering and cooling and was about 200km from home up a mountain pass. Expensive recovery. The top M8 bolt is still in place (it looks about 125mm long, probably part FB108251L). There seem to be a range of bolt lengths mentioned on the forums for the lower bolt. The engine alloy casting has a hole that appears to go right through the casting to the other side, maybe 100mm deep hole? so presumably a nut goes on a long bolt just like the long top bolt ? Can anyone tell me what length bolt I need and part number please? OR, like some forum members write, is it a short (maybe 30mm ?) M8 bolt that threads into the engine alloy casting with no nut on the end? If so, I hope the thread has not stripped out? It would be better for me if it is a long bolt with nut.
