Alternative seals for roof to windscreen and windscreen to bulkhead

Hey guys!

As I am almost done rebuilding Wheely following a complete respray I put the seals between roof and bulk head/windscreen frame (as per pic) BUT:
  • when I tight the roof completely with the nuts and bolts there is still a big gap between windscreen frame and roof (see pic)
  • the seal between bulkhead and windscreen frame is rather loose
the LR055345 one in foam is genuine LR, the MTC4994 in soft rubber and MTC6568 in foam are britpart - it just looks like there is not enough pressure on these foam seals (the plastic one can't be seen as it's between roof and windscreen) - also the MTC6568 is not long enough to cover the full roof width...

Was thinking that the easiest solution would be just to replace the MTC6568 and LR055345 with alternative seals neoprene slightly thicker and for the MTC6568 also to cover the full lenght of the roof from end to end

What are your thoughts on it?

What have you painted that with? We have seen one painted in white in the local area.

Back on topic. When I get to that point in my rebuild, I intend to put some 3mm neoprene closed cell rubber above and below the windscreen, then seals on the bulkhead and windscreen as normal.
 
Raptor? I have same problem in the top corners. I'm going to run a bead of black silicone along the whole length. As for the bottom seal, again run a bead of black silicone along the mating surfaces .I'd also peel back the windscreen rubber and get some sealant in there along top and sides as there isn't a good seal because of the rough raptor finish .

Yes it's painted in Raptor - was concerned of putting PU sealant around the windscreen rubber as it would make it very hard to remove anytime in the future is the glass is to be changed - don't you think?

Why 3mm, because I only have 1mm and 3mm. If 3mm isn’t thick enough, I will “stack” small amounts until it is thick enough.

I also haven’t put any sealer around the windscreen rubber, and until it leaks past it, I won’t be.
 
gotcha! so as long as I find a neoprene seal thicker than 3mm like this one (here) it will be fine to just use that rather than the original foam seals right? would neoprene be sufficient or need so apply something else to seal/attach properly (e.g. PU seal, ...)

That says “neoprene fabric”. I have “neoprene closed cell rubber”. When I apply it, I use some double sided tape, this holds the foam onto the area required, then assemble. I don’t think a sealer is required, others may disagree, but when it’s compressed it will seal.

I’m using one sheet of 3mm neoprene top and bottom of the windscreen frame, then the original seals as well. If I find this is too thick, I will remove the 3mm and replace with one or two layers of 1mm.
 
cool - can you help me understand why you still want to use the original foam rather than sticking to the neoprene closed cell rubber ?

If the seal isn’t fully compressed, it will allow water to pass. If it starts to degrade and crack, it will also allow water to pass. So by compressing both pieces of seal, retrofit and standard, this should stop any leaks, or at least prevent them for a long time. Hopefully....fingers crossed!
