Petrol or diesel??

You will find it a pain with changing into top at 45mph, that's what 3.5 RRC do and the slightest hill at that speed the box had to drop down a gear, so much better now at around 52-53mph.

Altering the changing speed of top gear on a auto gearbox. Mine changes into top gear at 52 mph. With today's speed limits being reduced from 60 to 50 mph my gearbox doesn't know if its coming or going. Can it be altered so it changes at 45 mph, and if so, how?

Sticking 315/70/17 tyres on mine has raised the lock up speed to 59mph. To reduce the lock up speed, you could stick Mini wheels/tyres on it. :)

Ashcrofts are a good source of info but they ain't cheap.

My lock up speed is 48/49 mph, and that was with both the 235/85/16 & current 265/75/16s.
Changing to a 1:4 ratio transfer box next week so it may change again after that.

Zuggy me old boy, I believe the norm is for you to head over to the introduction section, say hello, a lil bit of info about yourself and your motor, and then you can start asking for help...
Yea,yea, yea - who cares,a sensible question is being asked. The answer is that its not a simple alteration,I asked David Ashcroft a few years ago,the answer was that it would require altering the working length of a spring which would not be the same on all boxes.Ie,individual to each one.Hence they don't offer it as an upgrade.
Totally agree its annoying, would be so much better if they would lock up at 48mph so they would not be revving away in an all too common 50 limit.(But they are still way better than a manual box)

Mine used to lock up at about 53mph, but I modified it so it now locks up as soon as the gear is selected in any gear at any speed.....

... I fitted a manual :p and yes it was partly due to the stupid 50mph limits everywhere. The a614 is a PITA, eh Zuggy?

Thanks for getting back to me. I sent you a reply this morning using my phone. It was sent under personal message. I don't know if you received it or not. Anyway it sounds a big job just to alter the lock out speed. Its a job to undertaken when the gearbox is overhauled. Once again sorry about the introduction. I'm using a tablet and not a standard computer. So when I when to the intro part on the home page, no matter what I pressed it wouldn't allow my keyboard up to type anything. Bummer. Modern technology. Many thanks. Zuggy.
