Freelander 1 Alloy coolant bottle?

Do you have any photos showing this fitted? I'm looking at the same idea. I'd use the existing FL expansion tank as a holder, hack it about and make the VW tank fit into it. What did you do? Does a cap come with the VW bottle?

My bad: I've been distracted by other things - and the FL1 seems to be holding its coolant just fine at the moment, so I've not been incentivized yet! LOL

Good thought of using the old tank as a base for the new one. But that will make it taller still - but hopefully there is clearance?

Dimensionally pretty close, but not sure if I get the cigar or not yet, as the VW part is about 10% taller and thus may foul the bonnet close...

It'll need a bracket making and an extension or two of pipe work, but nothing too drastic IMO. View attachment 113170View attachment 113171
Did you ever get around to fit that VW expansion tank? My new LR one, which is less than 18 months old, has micro cracks around its neck. That's the 4th one I've fitted since I bought the car in 2014 : (. I'd be very interested to fit a VW one. Any photos of it in situ?

Slightly embarrisingly I have squirrelled that tank somewhere so safe, I can't find it now - so no... :(:oops::oops:

I'm always doing that Rob.:oops:

Question for you, while you're on. I know you're into the MGF scene. ;)
Any idea how much a VVC head is worth? I've 2 here, which are now surpluses to retirements. One is a 143 Bhp, the other is a 160 Bhp, both have fire ring impressions, so could be soft, but they are complete with working VVC assemblies. I've got the intake plenum for them as well, but no throttle bodies.
I've a new aftermarket rad for the MGF too.

Sorry the the thread hijack.

They do have value Nodge - remember that the 1.8 K-series was also fitted to Lotus Elise and Caterham 7 - and these can be de-VVC'd to give a basis on which to build a VHPD (if that is something you'd want to do) - and of course, these heads will fit on any 1.8 litre block...

If you can post a picture or two, I'll probably be able to have an idea as to whether they've gone soft...

Thanks Rod.

I'll take some pictures over the weekend, and PM to you. ;)
