Alarm keeps going off after new blipper fitted

After losing my blipper for the alarm a chap came round and connected a new one. the trouble is now the interior lights are on and every 10 mins or so the alarm chirps twice at me.

The doors all lock and i have checked the door switches all seem to be fine any ideas ?

Nope no idea at all, do you have the standard Land Rover alarm/immobiliser system?

Think about this sentence from the manual
"TestBook provides the ability to monitor the real time state of the remote receiver."

Hints > Turn ignition on but don't start your Disco for 5 minutes. This is suppose to reset the link between the BCU and IDM. The other way is with a testbook.

Other than that, you could try having the BCU reconfigured - again, done by tesbook.(for Disco 1 I think Hawkeye'll do it)

I may look a little Testbook freak in all my posts but I have had enough problems resolved only this way.

I guess a lot depends on which Disco ...

When I made up a refurbished plipper (off ebay) all it took was disconnecting the battery, briefly holding the cables together to discharge all circuits properly, re-connecting, and just pressing the buttons, worked a treat ..

There is also, technically, a 'procedure' to follow ... acc. to the manual ...

Procedure for re-programming Landrover discovery remote transmitters.

Start with the doors shut,
drivers’ window open, bonnet up but the bonnet switch held down (I use a tin of paint or something similar) and the key in the ignition.

The first part of the procedure has to be completed within ten seconds.

Ignition on
ignition off
lock doors (using the sill switch)
unlock doors (using the sill switch)
move the tin of paint, (or release the bonnet switch)
lock doors (using the sill switch)
unlock doors (using the sill switch)
ignition on
ignition off


if you carried the above out correctly the horn should have sounded momentarily, the indicators flashed and the red LED indicator on the dash should now be illuminated. If not you must start again.

Now press and hold the first transmitter button, the light on the transmitter should flash rapidly while receiving the signal from the system and after about five seconds the LED on the dashboard should blink once and remain lit, that is the first one done.
Now press and hold the second transmitter button and the same thing should happen to the light on the transmitter and after about five seconds the red LED on the dashboard will go out.

Job done!!

If you only have one working transmitter you can do it to the same one twice to complete the sequence on the car.

So's mine ..

some other problems have occured, the interior lights stay on and if the alarm is switched off and you lock the doors with the sill switch the doors unlock them selves afterwards.

I have checked the door close switches and they have all wires attatched how do you check the switches themselves ?

do you just earth the connector ? I could earth them all and see if that makes the light go out ?

This is how I do mine:

1. Sart off with keys in the ignition, the drivers window open, the bonnet open and the battery fixings loosened;

2. Turn the key to pos II, and imediately remove the neg battery lead connection;

3. Leave disconnected while you do anything else, check the oil, the coolant levels etc then put the neg battery lead back on and refasten the nuts;

4. Get in the drivers seat, close the door and it's window, turn the ignition off, get out of the car close the door and lock via the remote.

All should be good now.

This works on my '98 TDi's with 2-button remotes.

Is there any similar "artifice" that works on Disco 2 if the alarm is getting tricky.......or may I suppose that the one you described goes for D2 too?

Hi SF, this is the procedure that I know works for a DI, I don't know if it will work for a D2, but I suspect not. I believe you have to do the key synch-ing via Nanocom or similar.

its fixed !!! I took the car down to Call Rova in brighton and the chap down there was brilliant i cant praise him enough he sorted all my issues and at a very good price my only problem that he couldnt resolve was that my spider is on the way out he suggested a replacement as soon as possible when i can get one off ebay
