was told by the land rover guy who tried to read the faults (no success) to stick tape over the light, anyway removed the bulbs in the end got my pass although the examiner wasn't happy that the mileage wasn't lighting up now I can sort it at leisure

Odometer not lighting is not a fail just an advisory. MOT says any VISIBLE warning lamps. Cover them they are not visible. Simples.
Can you rea dthe mileage if the lamps have gone? and if you cannot read the mileage it cannot be recorded on the MOT, does that not sort of make a nonsense of the MOT?

A lot of the MOT is a bloody nonsense Keith. Brakes, lights and steering was all you tested when i did them. ;)

BUT that was in the days when wheels were solid and some tw*t ran in front waving a red flag !!!!!!!!!!!! ho ho ho x

You are a cheeky bugger Mozz. Some of them had blow up tyres. Have tested cars, wagons and coaches in my time. :D:D

Furthermore, I thought ANY warning light (inc check engine etc) would be an MOT fail?

Engine management light (or MIL) is not an MOT failure. The assumption is that if there is a fault bad enough to affect the emissions, it will fail the emissions test

Traction Control warning light is not a failure either, but stability control light is.

Although with some of these warning lights you can remove the bulb and get a pass, with the ABS light it has to function correctly, ie ABS warninglights up, then goes out after a period of time, with Landies, when you drive at more than 5mph.

Easily sorted with a 555 timer circuit;)
