Time to check the Comm Port Settings...

I literally plugged in the USB adaptor, Fired up the software, Changed the Comm Port to the Correct one in the EAS software...connected, Read Faults, cleared faults, disconnected, job done....

And I kid you not it was that quick....need to check your Comm Port Settings!

Yep put the ignition in II with the radio and heater fan blowing. I have the 35 mph message on the dash with or without the connection. I think the connection is OK as if I disconnect the car makes a beep. When starting the car during the test (know this was not in the instructions) only the HIGH EAS light is on. I've connected via USB and opened a Comm port that allows a connection.

So either you have a connection problem with the OBD connector, or more likely a windows driver problem for the USB to serial adaptor.
