just bought a 2004 pursuit, first time i have had a car with air sus,
haven't really drove it much in the time i have had it, got all service kit and egr kit ready to do, drove about 30 miles last saturday, parked it up for an hour came back and it looked like it had sat on it's arse, started it up, all back up, drove home, all ok, parked it up all week, all ok!! until late yesterday afternoon it had done it again, started it up did an 24 mile journey there and back all ok. this morning sat back on it arse.

is it the air bags?? do they need replacing?,

haven't had time to look or even mess with it as sun was shinning for a change!

Its most likely the airbags,if its on its originals they are 8 tears old and are probably perished, like your's mine would seem fine for days at a time then suddenly drop on one side overnight, new bags cured it.

Edit just re-reading your post, does the whole of the rear end drop or just one side more than the other?

Sounds like you need new airsprings, get Contitech ones. It might be a good idea to change the ride height sensors at the same time?

seems to go both sides equally,
i had the feeling it must be the bags, but when it went 6 days with no sign,
made me think differently,

got mine from paddocks about 70 quid if i remember right piece of **** to change dont forget the clips tho.

were they the Dunlops? 'the big lad' says CONTITECH one's but why??
i haven't even looked under it yet to see what sort it has on, but if they have done 8 years on Dunlop, they probably have done alright,
it is still up since sat night!! not sagged yet:clap2:

Dunlops versus Contitech?

First of all the Dunlops ones supplied by Britpart last year had a problem with them to the extent that several owners found they EXPLODED!!!!!!

Contitech were the original supplier to LR and I've not come across any adverse issues with them.

Pays yer money etc etc...........................

has anybody else had problems with the dunlops?

AFAIK there was only a small batch of some dunlops which had a manufacturing defect but they were replaced under warranty... IMO they're just fine..., they didnt make any problems for me yet

just an update! still perplexed on whether the air bags are knacked or not?
left it all week, never moved or started it, suspension up!!
moved it friday afternoon all ok! moved it again, parked up came back to it!! sat on it's arse!!!, went shopping wi the mrs friday night all ok! started to do egr and service it saturday afternoon, moved it onto drive, an hour or so later it gradually sat down, got all me jobs done, took it for test drive etc all suspension blown up and ok!!! used it today all still up, so to me is it the air bags or some sort of sensor??
as it doesn't go down every time straight away!
so if i spend £200.00 on new bags and it still does this!! i will be no nearer!

that's the way they do... they have the ability to seal themselves from time to time...it will happen more often in time...but if you wait too much you'll overwork and loose the compressor too...buying new bags as long as the other ones are old is not wasted money cos you'll never be able o diagnose other fault if you are not certain that bags are good...and in most cases the manegement issues will trigger the warning light too....as thebiglad said some time ago...put new springs, but IMO you can go for Dunlops without fear

To establish if the bags are leaking follow this procedure:

1. Start the engine, press the off-road button to pump up the back end to max, close all doors, leave engine running.

2. With a quantity of soapy water spray the air bags and examine for leaks.

They normally leak where they roll over. The rubber can re-seal itself temporarily.

i will have a look this week as it can go for it's mot 1 month before running out, i usually sit in the vehicle and help him do it, so i will have a good luck underneath with a fairy liquid bottle armed and ready,
then if it leeks 2 new Dunlop bags!

I had the same trouble with mine, sometimes fine, other times it would sag. I thought it might be something to do with where it was parked? Perhaps putting pressure on a weak point? When it sagged at work, I wondered if it was the savage speed humps in the drive way. Anyway, it still points to a leaking bag, so it has to be changed. They say you need to change both sides. I had to wait till the next payday to change the other side, it seemed Ok though.
