There's a good Android app that can chrono an air gun. You basically make very careful measurements and it listens for the muzzle crack and then the impact of the pellet and calculates the velocity and then the muzzle velocity and power based on the ballistic properties of the pellet (the pellet data needs to be accurate too). It's called chrono connect lite and it could save you £80 on buying a chrono

I found it difficult to get it working with anything but a steel target. It just didn't hear it when I fired at paper, wood or plastic

i have a pellet catcher (a metal one) so it should hear it plink

i'll report back when i've tested it
