My advice would be buy new.
You can get a ashcroft locker new from crown diffs for £750 built ready to fit

But if you want a second hand one best place to look is Devon 4x4

I have been looking and can get a new one from paddocks for £475 exc vat but not sure if thats new.

Yes they are new. £570 with vat,
then you need to build it in a diff, set the back lash drill out for air lines. If you have the tools and know how to set up diffs buy from paddocks.
If not buy from crown diffs, steve is a top block built and supplied both my diffs

Second that, I have built my own but I have the tools and had practice,

Unless you are 110% sure you can build it right ten ge Steve to build it and ship it to you, give hike a call he's a very helpfull guy

Think ill give it a go my self. And for the price i may as well buy new they seem to be going in the region of £400 £500 used.

Don't for get there's around £80 in bearings and oil seal, you will need markers blue or similar, might need a set of shims £20 ish from ascroft I think, you will need a puller to remove the old bearings from the pinion, a press to press the new ones in the diff case on to the pinion and the carrier bearings, you will me a good quality dti gauge to check the run out on the crown wheel and for setting the backlash, the appropriate tool for checking the preload, ideally a hight block to check the pinion hight. You will have to drill and tap the diff case and form the airline for the inside and flare it.

Oh and lots of cleaner to get rid of the oil as it gets every where.

Thanks for all the info. Will see how much tim e i have and go from there.

Tools and equipment ain't a problem as i go down my mates garage and help myself.
And the diff oil not only gets everywhere if fooking stinks.
