Hi Guys,

So ... my P38 (DHSE)'s AC seemed to die on me a couple of months ago (just after having my O Rings done) ... basically, it quite happily blows hot but doesn't blow cold anymore.

Just took it along to Kwikfit for a regas and they carried out the regas (gas was at around 80%) and also a leak test which came back clear. However, still no cold air.

The guy at Kwikfit then told me as he shone his torch round the engine bay that I am missing a belt for the compressor which is why I am not getting cold air. He did show me a pulley low down which didn't have a belt on it and had streaks of rust on it.

Now, I suspect (from reading threads on here) that my problem may be a knackered compressor but is there any truth in what this guy was saying or was he talking s***?

All comments more gratefully welcomed!

Cheers :)

no belt on compressor means no ac-get the butler to look for you

Belts fail, doesn't mean that the compressor is stuffed.

Ok. Is changing the belt a big job or would I, with limited skills, be able to do it? Will have a look on Rave too but won't be able to till much later tonight.

Put a socket on clutch retaining nut on compressor it should turn reasonably easily. If it does just fit a new belt. If you can't move it or it is very hard to move new compressor.

not a big job mate, better if the below stairs maid sits on you whilst you are on your back under the car.the pleasures of having staff

So ... got the butler to have a go at replacing the belt ... he had to remove the undertrys and then fiddle around with the steering arms and all sorts before he was able to get to the Pulleys ... He's now asking for overtime!

Had a look on Rave but it doesn't go into the details of how to get to the belt/pulleys in the first place ... anyone replaced their A/C belt recently and if so ... do you have a "how to" handy?

Yeah just take it off and fit a new one. Tensioner is eccentric that's about all you need to know.

See, some faults on a P38 ARE easy to fix - you'd have thought that a P38 not blowing cold air couldn't be as simple as putting a new drive belt on! Blend motors, dash out jobs, holed rads, failed compressor clutches, trinary switches etc out all immediately spring to mind first!!!
