Does anyone know if there is a part in the A/C system that fails regularly? Mine has been re-filled twice in the past year and had an O ring replaced somewhere in the pipework the second time. Each time it is checked there is only about 150-200 grammes of gas left. It has to be leaking somewhere but despite the dye in it and a UV lamp, it just won't show up. And summer is coming (I think).

When i regass an air con system i always pressure test it about 8barr of nitrogen, this will need to be done by an air con engineer.

8 times out of 10 its usually the condenser, cos it gets hit by little flying stones of the road surface.

Question for you, do you use the air con as per the manufacturing instructions, ie at least once a week for ten mins.

cheers mark

i was thinking also it leaks on the compressor housing where the gasket splits through lack of use.

because you have maybe a metal cast on the compressor, and a aluminium pipe attached, on a manifold of some type.

Re the question about using the a/c regularly, we got the car a couple of years ago and it didnt work straight off, hence the first "fix" so can't speak for the previous owner. I use the a/c on the P38 and my SType every day anyway so am aware it has to be used. Looks like a pressure test is due with uv goggles. Fortunately it's still in warranty.
