Air-con noise from pulley

My aircon started making a load whistling noise from aircon pulley

Any anyone just changed the pulley or is it a complete new pump

I would reckon a new pump. I had this recently on my Jag XKR. The pulley on that was on some magnetic clutch and I just purchased a good second hand unit.
Remove the belt and see if there is any play in the pulley.

Is it permanant noise or only when ac is switched on ?

More perminant and seems to get loader as you go faster/ higher revs

sounds like you need a new pump to me.

Its deff not just a squeaky belt?

The other option if buying a replacement is too costly is to replace the aircon pump with a non aircon idler pulley and belt.

No it's not the belt looking at the aircon pump the clutch isn't working and with belt off the pump is very hard to move and not smooth

it should spin freely when disengaged and lock up when engaged. It does sound like it's knackered. If you wait until dark and then start the engine up with the belt on you may even see some sparks from it.

Pump off and checked then put back on and regased and still making noise
My mate who does aircon is saying it's not the pump

take the belt back off and feel for roughness in the other pulleys. Pay particular attention to the idler and tensioner pulleys.

The only one that feels tight is alternator

tight or just heavier turning?

is it still smooth? if you spin it does it keep spinning or stop dead?

It's goosed

the alternator is not alone there the vacuum pump is attached and IMO that's fubar'd...but afaik it will not spin freely due to the pump even if it's good...and if it doesnt spin with the belt you'll get a "no charging" warning on the dash...unfortunately you can't buy just the pump as a spare...shame

It seems to be charging ok at moment

Seems odd as when aircon starts up there is Deffo a rattle from aircon pump / pulley but there still is a whistle from somewhere

Sorted found a manifold stud that had become wedged against pulley so it's manifold stud replacing time again
