Ok just phone kwik dick £45 to fill, vacume test free?dye test £ 29 and thank god they don't fix em, saint I would not of recommend them in any way, I is not thick but in my opinion regas is about that cost so if there is a prob you can find out for free well almost. Halfords do dye kits now not sure how much tho at mo

Wouldn't take a pram to either to have the hubs greased. Let alone a motor for repairs.

What do you suggest then most places just say refill £ 50 does that mean they fill up and send you off on your merry way or check the system first ?????

No just a jibe. Vac test is best to test for initial leak. Dye would then be put in to find where leak is if there is one. On a P38 it is usually on the top corner of the condenser.

So are you saying all air con regas company do this does that mean if it fail like dick fit they charge less see where I'm getting any fool can plug the machine in and await results( well almost lol) but they seem cheapest . I bet the others still charge the £50 .

If the refill is done properly they should evacuate all the refrigerant and oil then put new oil and refrigerant in. Not just squirt gas in.

Before a fill they have to pull the out old gas first, then the unit pulls a vacuum for a set period of time, when the vac test is passed, it opens the gas valves and the vacuum initially pulls the majority of the gas in, then unit then pumps the remaining set charge into the system....

The unit (well the ones I've seen) won't progress to the next stage automatically if it fails the vac test....the fitter/mech/operative needs to manually press a few buttons etc to force a regas if the vac test fails - again that is on the ones I have seen being done....

EDIT: again due to my long posts - Wammers beat me to it.!!!!

my local KwickFik couldn't do a dye test. Took it to a specialist a/c company who were (not cheap but) very professional.

BTW, Saint, nice new wheels! I missed that purchase.

Right that the prosses but I'm more concerned on the pricing structure as I'm a stingy git that's what I'm trying to get at!!

:DCheers Jerry - I am over the moon with it - even if the first few weeks haven't been smooth - EAS Recalibration (My choice not a fault with the system) - ABS Sensor - Duff Locking Wheel Nut - Thermostat Change:D

my Kwikfit wouldn't recharge it without a proper test as I opened with: I think my condenser is knackered. They said it was illegal to discharge the gas into the atmosphere. At that point, I left...

Re the antibacterial treatment, I think the cartriges are £10 - less on ebay. There are plenty of vids on youtube that show how to disinfect the system.

@Saint, I love the idea of a newer RR, but this one goes so well I can't justify changing it!

Must have been someone else. Had loads of pics. Remember something about being able to access lower condenser bolts without removing grill etc by using long extension bar.

G~

It's a piece of pee get your tools out and do it. About an hours worth. Just look at RAVE.
