Hi all, driving down to the New Forest on Monday for our holiday the air con stopped blowing cold air but after not using it for an hour it came back to life. It was OK Tue/Wed/Thurs but yesterday only worked for half an in the morning & nothing since :(. It seems the compressor clutch isn't engaging (the fans work ok when a/c button is pushed). Is there anything simple ish I can check as I've got limited tools on board ? I do have my MM & Foxwell 530 but not sure what it can do for a/c as I've not looked at the menus. Any help would as ever be much appreciated.

Wit the a/c on & fan speed at 1 the Foxwell is giving this info, not sure if the readings mean much to anyone.

Pics don't mean much to me and I'm not an ac expert, but sounds like something is getting hot and not working, have you checked the relays? There will be a pressure switch somewhere which disables the system if it's too high or too low. As it gets warmer outside, the pressure will increase, has it had a recent refill?

I'd have it re-gassed and go from there.
The evaporator should be well below 22°C, more like 0 °C.
Hi, the night before it was ice cold as it was yesterday morning when we started out (unless it sprung a leak whilst driving). I will find a Halfords down here & get them to pressure check it (as they do it for free). I have a kit at home & topped it up last year & I make sure I run it once a week even though I haven't used it much in the last 6 mths & with hindsight I suppose I should have checked it before I come away but it was working as it should so didn't think anything of it.

The halfrauds i went to had no test kit, just a refill canister and gauge, didn't notice a leak caused by complete failure (separation) of one of the metal pipes

No nothing obvious, the condenser rad/dryer I replaced 2 yrs ago & visually 'looks' fine. I'll still nip to Halfords as at least they can check if it's holding pressure before refilling for no charge.

I've been to Halfords in Eastleigh this morning & the ac system has some pressure but it's low, unfortunately they have no gas to top it up (neither have any Halfords in the surrounding area) as they've had a run on it, surprise surprise:). They're expecting a delivery Thursday but not sure we'll be here then. I have got a can at home & have just ordered 3 more (as I have the D2, Mazda 2 & the wifes Galant to check/top up) so I'll see what pan's out. Thanks for the replies.

Hi all, having got home & connecting my simple air con gauge it's showing high pressure (in the red) so have swapped the horn relay for the air con one but the compressor clutch doesn't engage hence the pressure not dropping when a/c is switched on.
It looks like something has happened to the clutch as there's something in one of the 3 holes & wet marks on the pulley with the belt on it see pics. It all spins freely enough with no roughness or grinding so:- Are the clutches rebuildable or is it a s/h compressor job ?
