air con compressor? can it be used as air compressor?

We were only discussing this at the monthly lz pub meet on weds. You can use the compressor direct but you have to consider lubrication. Also the pipes heat up too much. So using a receiver bottle is a better option. Stutab is going to build it into the rrc he is rebuilding. That is if he ever has time. He's helping me put a fence up tomorrow :-D

Yes you can, there are some links I have on my pc of how to do it. You need to make the mechanism lubeable, I am going to fit an auto greaser and use high temp lithium grease. You need to block off the internal pipe that runs from the air end to the mechanical end, this is there as the air con gas is a lubricant. I will fire up the pc and see if I can dig out the links. Will make sence then. You will need a receiver cylinder and a working pressure switch linked to the clutch on the ac pump.

I LOVE the AC in my Disco and find it essential for keeping the windows clear. The sensor that stops the evaporator icing up failed on mine so I replaced it with a simple time switch that runs the compressor for 30 seconds, with a variable pause of 3 seconds to 3 minutes. This gives me adjustable cooling in summer and adjustable dehumidification. As far as a compressor I use a portable twin pump model made for pumping up 4X4 tyres and power it from the pto in the grey caravan socket. Works and is simple, which is always the best imho.

the front electric fans on aircon were do they get temp from to turn on:doh:
if i use aircon pump as compressor then they spare so i could take viscos fan off and wire them in to cool and turn off when wading to stop water spraying every were.
wounded if i could adapt temp sensor from air con :)

Most turn on when the air con is turned on, the temp sensors are under the dash linked to the matrix. A switch on the dash would suffice or a simple temp sensor linked to relay. I am running mine to the dash with a switch and getting rid of the air con radiator to improve air flow and keep my V8 cool.

so it not another daft idea then was going to wire the two sep so can have one or both on
what you think will two over cool it running all time only 300 tdi

should be ok in the summer, they would be running if the air con is on anyway. A cold engine produces more horse power than a hot engine and there is less chance of blowing a head gasket.

wrong. a hot engine is more efficient and therefore produces more power. The cooler the air, the more dense it is tho. thats why injuns have air cooling systems.

In my audi's user manual if says the engine is more efficient when that and the cats have got up to temp.

But cold air is better than warm air (expands more on combustion).

Im running a 300 tdi disco with an ac compresdor for my air supply
It fills a 16lt tank up in about 20seconds to 150psi
Its used to power my air horns and inflate tyres if i need to . The electro clutch on compressor is activated from a pressure switch on tank
