Air compressors

Hiya guys. After a bit of advice on this bit of kit.

Iv been looking to go air powered for a while mainly for the ratchet use and what not. I also plan on buying a paint gun too to repaint the landy at some point.

What do you think? High enough cfm?

Looks ok for home use. High air consumption items may be intermittent on full pressure.

Seems to be ok for home use, to be honest you won't get more than that from a single phase 240v supply, you will find things like spraying and powerful impact guns will use more than the compressor will make and you have to work intermittently, best way to make it more useable is a second receiver connected into the system this will give longer runs before the pressure falls.

Looks good value for a 3hp 100L compressor, plus you get a load of accessories. I've not tried any of their compressors but other SGS stuff I've had has been pretty robust and nicely made. For DIY use you're normally not using the tool continuously anyway so the motor doesn't have too much trouble keeping up. I've got a 3 hp Machine Mart one and it's fine for spraying, drilling, wrenching and needle scaling. It might struggle to keep up with blasting though.

It is just for home use so it's not going to be in constant use but it would be good to have something I won't have issues to paint with.

What can you recommend I look for? Baring in mind occasional home use so I'm not looking for too pricey

What do you mean by a second receiver?

Something with a 200 litre tank would be better for spraying. Good second receiver if you settle for the 100 litre tank compressor would be a large Calor gas bottle

As warmers says above many people get an empty calor gas bottle (large size) ventilate it for a while and the connect it into your compressor receiver it will then increase your compressed air storage capacity and give you much longer "bursts" of activity with high consumption tools.

I agree with @Brown , SGS have a great reputation and produce some good quality tools, and for £250 you ain't gonna get much better quality or value. In fact I reckon you'd spend £100+ more to get near to the value/quality of their kit.

My opinion is that for home use you'll not do a great deal better, even for spraying, than this and as an all-round compressor it's ace! ... You generally won't be spraying as quickly or continuously as per a pro, so don't need pro kit. Take your time and lay the paint down properly, it ain't a race ..

at that price its a done deal imho, same size as mine - though mine is a Clarke - 100l 14.5 cfm 3hp. its fine for spraying, I need a better gun though

mine is a few years old and I paid around that just for the compressor

SNAP! I've been looking at that exact same deal from sgs-engineering I want it to spray my new chassis and run a air ratchet. I had looked at the 50Ltr one but a friend at work advised to go for the 100Ltr he says it should cope easily so thats what i'm going order at end month.

Looks ok but the mention a 16 Amp supply maybe has a high starting load.
