Hi everyone. Just fitted 200tdi into 1990 110. I have a 300tdi airbox that came with the engine. Original 19j air box has aa k&n filter in it. Was wondering how detrimental it would be to re use that. Filter us smaller but should breath easier. Air filter outlet to turbo is same size as turbo inlet so can't see it being overly restrictive. Any ideas, comments or sharing of knowledge would be welcome. ☺

I run my 300 Tdi Disco engine using the original 19j filter housing with no detriment, other than I had to cut the mounts up and it's a bit precarious .. How much, preferably delivered/courier'd, for the 'proper' 300 Defender airbox? I'm assuming you mean a defender (cylindrical) not a Disco airbox? It'd fit better than how mine is right now. Doncaster DN3 area

Hi Paul I had planned on keeping the 300tdi can for a while at least, just in case. Where are you I Donny? Are you I Doncaster District Landrover club?

No worries, it's what I'd do .. ;)

Yeah, Doncaster but not part of DDLRC .. already do too much laning and stuff with the Landy without also joining the locals. I log onto their Facebook page a bit, but not much.

I thought you may be able to get an air can through there, or try Lee Charlesworth on facebook, he's breaking e few.

Will work fine, some say that the K&N lets in more dirt and can lead to early bore wear.
That's probably a risk worth taking for me as don't intend going anywhere too extreme dirt wise, and the English weather keeps airborne dust to a minimum, ha ha

K&N filters increase power by letting more dirt through- fine on a race engine but not good on a road car IMO. The standard paper filters work fine and are better at keeping dust out. Only significant difference between them is the 19J filter is round vs the flat 300tdi.

Ditch the K&N and put a standard paper filter in. Keeps it standard - cheap parts and easy to get. I've had K&N on a couple of landies. Nice idea, but not worth the bother on a non race car. Cleaning and reoiling them is a PITA.
