I have just finished changing the nearside front airbag on the Nag, and followed the excellent howto guide on this site.

As always is the case nothing goes to plan, the bottom clip/spring was seized in and you can't get at it to hammer is through, no amount of pulling, levering etc would move it.

I finally found I could get a chisel into the gap and was able to shear the clip each side of the protrusion on the bottom of the air spring, so releasing it from the wheel hub.

I improvised a new clip from a length of wire coat hanger, which seems to have done the job.

Hopefully if any forum member is caught in the same predicament in the future this will hopefully save some scratching of the head.

You should able to see on the image where a cut the clip

Well done :)
You should change the offside too now; they should be done in pairs as they've probably worn evenly

What mileage is yours at? It does look pretty shredded!

Great tip, thanks!

I've got four new airbags (and replacement clips) sat in my garage waiting for me to find the time to replace them, so it's good to know others have recently been successful with this.

Was your replacement a Dunlop or an Arnott?

I step at time, mind you the offside doesn't look to bad, I think they might have been replaced separately in a previously life. Odysseus mine was a Dunlop if that helps, got quoted £350 for a bag at the main dealer, nearly fell of my chair, thank god for eBay!

Holly monkey poo....£350, tell them to go jump....aftermarket suppliers can supply Dunlop bags for less than £80 a piece!

Most people on here spend the extra couple of quid and get clips as well
