Hi guys, can I install an aftermarket car security alarm system onto my P38 Range Rover? I want to replace the OEM immobiliser/car security system since it is not working properly now. I need advice from all of you guys since I am a noob. Thanks in advance guys :)

Can't just physically remove the built in security system..it's programmed and built in to the BECM and engine ECU.
Maybe the alarm and immobiliser functions have been disabled in the BECM..some poeple say "Not a bad thing!!!" in view of the grief they can give.
You say "It's not working now"...can you elaborate?..Did it work before??

Well, I only can lock and unlock the car using normal key i.e. not using the keyless entry. So, what u are telling me is I can't install an aftermarket alarm to my P38? :(

have you heard of the EKA code?

first try re-syncing the key:

put the key in the door lock, turn to lock whilst hold the lock button on the fob, do the same for unlock!

Dead batteries in the key fob? Does the LED light when you press the buttons?

Well, I have sent my RR to a local garage and they already found out the problem. I will have a look at my RR tomorrow morning.

Hi razmrtwo
You haven't answered the questions really from Irishrover, Gavbriggs and Datatek. They're willing to help but only if you answer the questions they ask. Please read the questions first.
If your doorlock is stuck and you can't open the door at all, it will mean removing the door card with the door closed and operating the mechanism by hand.

Thanks for the reply Derek. Well, to answer their question, Iam no longer using a keyless entry i.e. I lock and unlock the car manually. The key fob is no longer working though so Im not sure if any of the methods u guys mention will work or not.

Surfing on the net Im guessing that the door latch might be the cause for the door to be "super"lock. Probably Im gonna spend some cash (well, a lot of it actually) to buy a brand new latch which cost around 260quid or BND$600 in our currency :(

I apologise for my poor english since my mother language is malay.

Hi Razmrtwo
Ok. If your car has been 'superlocked' at any time using the fob and the passenger door has then subsequently failed to unlock, it will not open just unlocking the vehicle with the key in the drivers door. It will require the fob working to unlock it. If it isn't superlocked, it should unlock by pulling up the interior latch.

Can you start and drive the car normally?

Why doesn't the fob work? Have you tried to re-sync the fob?

If all else fails and the pasenger door IS superlocked, the only way you will get in is to removed the door card and operate the mechanism by hand. If you go onto the 'Green Oval' site, you will be able to download 'Rave' there which is the manual for the Range Rover

Your English is pretty good!
Good luck

Yes, manually locking and unlocking the door, I still can start and drive the car normally. The person whom I bought the car from no longer using the key fob for whatever reasons that I don't know. I only had one key fob with me but the battery is gone. I will try to replace the battery and try to re-syn the fob.

Thanks again for your help Derek :)
