The 5 small holes signify a later wheel. Look at the back for the part number and date. The offset should be on the back too.

lol, I just went and checked the wheels on my '98 and '01 cars - I to thought the wheels were identical - but the '98 car has the same wheels as your 's-1225.jpg' image and the '01 car has the 'images.jpg' wheels. You learn something new every day :)

Ok thanks. I wanted to change the rims into somethong like that. But after a lot of reading it doesent seems a good idea.

I change my tyres brand new dynamo pro 3 months later all the tyres scrup and make very loud noise. I check my suspension and its ok also another 3 cars fls which wear the same tyres after 30k didnt have any issues like me. Do you think that the rim with the holes has different offset than the other 3 which dont have holes?

Nodge are they both 15" 5 1/2 JJ? I'd guess then that the 5 whole one has a greater offset to allow for wider tyres?

The offset is slightly different to compensate for the larger brake discs and drums of the post 2000 Freelander It's not a huge difference, something like 6mm, but it's enough to prevent the wheel from fouling the brakes.

Apart from the wheel alignment holes on the front face those wheels are exactly the same and off the vented brake setup models so the offset will be the same on them all

Check your VCU (eg 1 wheel up test) - if its to stiff it will be putting everything under stress - not just the mechanicals, the tyres as well.

Presumably something is different about them though - whether its to get over larger calipers on the front or squarer drums on the back - presumably something is different.

Vcu was brand new and everything else was allright. Thats y i was suprised from my scrub tyres. I have to found out if there is actually a difference and what difference coz i cant affort another new set of tyres and to be scrub again

I found out that they have both the same offset 6.5Jx15 ET40 at least that is what tyre-size.com says. But for a diesel it should be 7Jx16 ET40 so as it looks like someone took the wheels from a petrol fl and put them on mine. (maybe the previous owner). Bit as soon as i get the car i will remove the tyres from the wheels and i will check them by my self just to be sure. And i will let you know

There's no need to remove the tyres to check the offset. It's written on the back of the spokes. The date, part number and offset should be visible under the accumulated muck.

If the 15 and 16 bits refer to the wheel diameter - I'm sure 15" was the standard fit on L Series Freelander's - that's what I have on my '99.

It's likely that different markets had a different spec than the standard UK vehicles. Here 15 inch wheels were fitted to base spec Freelanders. All higher spec Freelanders got 16 inch wheels. So basically if the interior was cloth, 15 inch wheels were fitted as standard. If the interior was leather, 16 inch wheels were to standard fitted size. There are some slight variations to this as 16 inch wheels were an option on lower spec vehicles.
I'm not sure about overseas markets fitments however.

Ok that's confuzing.there are too many differences on the same model. But leather sounds ok to me :p too bad mine is with cloth. Always driver seat tears on the side. I supose the only way to found out is to check manually

Prior to MY01 (ie L Series era) I believe all variants (Xe...Xedi) had 15" wheels & cloth trim - the only ones that might not have had were special/limited editions (eg 50 year aniversary).

50th anniversary Freelanders here got everything. If it was an option, it was fitted. I had a 50th anniversary edition, it had everything, including 16 inch alloy wheels.

UPDATES.! after 3 months i manage to get my car back in one piece last week . it had to be rebuilt the engine twice as the fist time there war a crack somewhere and the oil was mixing with the water. that's what i been told anyway.
having my baby back and working smooth and standard(turbo pressure and diesels) it seems a little bit weird as it feels a little slow but i think i am going to use to it. now my other big one problem is with faded bumpers. is anyone had a similar problem and found a permanent solution about that ?
