Hello,

I am planning to build an expedition prepared series land rover. The build can take as long as it takes and I will not be heading out on a round the world tour for a few years yet.

I'm keen on a ground up build of a series 2a or 3 109 with a dynachassis as a starting point. My budget is no more than £20k to include all the necessary items. I wont consider a 110. I'm not interested.

I need help.

Is the dynachassis coil conversion really all that beneficial or am I best to stick with parabolics?

What engine would be best for an expedition or two, V8 with LPG, 2/300TDI or Turner 2.25 petrol? Or maybe something else?

What would be the best vehicle to start with? I have a choice of a 1966 2a or a 1983 Stage 1?

Thanks in advance,
Adam

You'll be OK with coils if the manufacturer of the new chassis will issue a certificate of "Direct replacement". If not I'd stick with parabolics, it's easier.
Trust me I've been there and still got the taste of it.

Wesley, thanks for the reply. Can you comment on the actual ride differences of the coil vs parabolics?

Although I drive a series 2 with parabolics and gas shocks, that is what I'm happy with for laning and playing. Coils are a far superior ride with better articulation. Coils would be more practical if I'm honest.
One day when I have an obscene amount of cash, I too will be on coils.
