I've been looking at the idiots guide for the R380 manual gearbox and I notice they have a neutral switch could some one please tell me what a neutral switch is, what it does, and why its on a manual gearbox I could see the reason on an automatic box but not a manual

thank you

The gear box has to be in neutral before the transfer motor runs to change ratio. The neutral switch tells the transfer ECU that this is so.

Thank you Wammers

Can I ask what effect this has on the gear box if it's not working

On the gearbox none. If you try to select low ratio and it does not send a signal to the transfer box ECU the change won't happen and you will get "Select neutral" message.
