I think I would like a Freelander 2. New or Newish. Like the look of it, never had a Landy B4, terrified by the faults reported on Forums having owned a Honda B4. What should I look out for, best years to stick to. Please help.

In fairness I think most of Freelanders faults are more associated with the early petrol ones.

Have a look on here (search ) for Freelander 2 faults.

I'm going to test drive one 4th June and will be reporting on here how it went.
I'd seriously suggest you do the same. ;)

Yer tend to only get peeps on forums wiff faults. Very few come in ere to tell us they're Freelander is running ok. Most only find the place when looking fer fault info on the web. Main Freelander forum has lots fer yer to read. :welcome2:
 
We've had and L359 in recently with a broken engine. I guess as the engine was Ford, most people can't believe it. Came in with a failed fuel pump. Came to change it and the cam which drives the pump had snapped.

The customer chose to fit a breaker yard engine, as LR wanted 6k just for a recon stripped engine. The breaker mentioned he sold another one recently where the con rod had failed on the engine it was replacing.

We are yet to strip the old engine down, but it is all starting to look like another case of where an engine is perfectly OK in a standard saloon vehicle, but fit it to a heavier 4x4 with a different drivetrain, and it all goes tits up - as per M51 2.5 in the p38, M62 in L322 etc...
 
Very happy so far with my 07 Manual GS. Most people prefer the HSE and say it will keep its value better (but they cost more in the first place). Earlier basic models are a bit spartan (eg no cruise control) but recent models have better spec. Manuals are better for fuel economy, but some have had a clutch problem. Autos are better off road but use more diesel. It's not the same car at all as the FR1 - doesn't seem to have many faults at all. Other main reported problems are vibration in fifth and sixth, and noisy turbo on recent models. Both of which you should notice on a test drive. the slipping clutch is also most noticeable in 5th and 6th. if you buy from dealer try to get a good warranty AND A PROPER SPARE WHEEL AND JACK. Lovely car. You won't regret it. Probably.
 
Get one my freelander is ace, dont listen to the sad basterds that say freelanders are ****, they aint they are great on road and do cope off road as well
 
Plus, if you really want to see what it's capable of, book a half day Land Rover experience (a keen dealer will probably give you one free to clinch a sale - failing that insist on them throwing one in for free after you've bought one!). They are surprisingly awsome off-road, considering they don't have a bottom box.
 
hi my TD4 is running great apart from them damm 3 amigos still waiting for part.
looking forward driffield 7 may il be there hopefully without the 3amigos

Oi cheeky wench:D we luvs our freelander and its got no faults at all.....now that we've fixed the 2 windows that wouldn't work, the wipers that had a mind of thier own, the central locking that didn't operate the drivers door and the broken check strap on a back door. its faultless now:eek:
