Advice please : ECU Modulator, TC + ABS Lights
Hey Everyone, hope you're well.

Need some advice if possible....
Picked up a beautiful Defender 90 not long ago and there were a couple of things that I needed to do- working project as they always are. One of the things happening were 3 lights on the dash board. Two of them are the ABS and TC lights which are permanently on, and the other one is the handbrake warning light.

The 90 went in for some diagnostic work to figure out what was happening, and the handbrake warning light is just a cable that needs to be replaced so that's not a big thing.

Investigation work went on for a little while, and they said they were finding it difficult to locate the source of why the TC and ABS lights were on all the time. I think the next stage of what they are going to do is replace the ECU Modulator? They are not going ahead with the full replacement yet - i think they are going to swap over the Modulator from another 90 into mine, and see if that makes the lights go out... and if they do, i think it's going to be a £1400 part from what the chap said on the phone to get it replaced....

I've done alot of reading on the ABS and TC lights and yes they are a dreaded issue and a common one at that on the Defenders, however, i'm mindful of the fact that the truck won't pass it's MOT with those 2 lights on.

Has anyone got any experience of the ABS and TC lights coming on with 90's? If you have, what were the route causes? The information i've got under last ownership was that both lights were very much intermittent and would come on now and again. As of today they are both on all the time.....

I don't have the 90 with me at the moment as it's in the workshop having those diagnostics done, but obviously as it's a 'new thing to me' i feel a little alone on the matter, and was hoping you guys wouldn't mind sharing your experience of it or any fixes to rectify the issues and what they actually were?

You guys are great as always and thanks for any advice in advance

You need to search for the "three amigos" on this forum. There is a mine of info available.
There are many causes but most indys will just change the modulator as it is simple for them but expensive for you and most of the time not necessary.
On my CSW a simple power bleed of the complete braking system solved the problem after I was told I needed a new modulator by my local main stealers.
I would do your home work before splashing the cash as it may be something as simple as a dodgy ABS sensor connector.
