my td4 bmw m47 r auto has now got 188,000 miles on the clock,

i know i spoke about this ages ago and decided to just leave it but my son is going to buy me a second hand lump around 3-400 quid for a project for me, even if it takes around 8 months or so to do

in order i can keep my mind occupied ive rebuilt 2 series 3 engines in the past and know there nkt an easy job to do

so been looking on ebay and most of them are stripped but can parts from mine

of course i understand some of the bits would have to be sent away to be done due to machinery

a reconed engine are going for about 2.5 k and the car has setimental value due to senga and i buying it

but wouldnt wish to get one without seeing it first, or how long its been out of the car

as u could turn up at a breakers with the lump there, turn it over with a socket and bar but theres no guarantee its not knackered

if i could get one with about 50 ,000 miles on it, would just pull the head off and sump and could see what condition its in , change the timing chain, replave the be,ts and tesioner etc

but thought it was a very nice offer, ideally would possibly be better to buy a write off and have the engine running but most of the engines on ebay are 200 miles away from me and undortunatly once my son hands over the cash just want to ask ur advice etc

the autobox is ok as is the ird so would bolt them back on, just replace gaskets etc and a general oil change

know at the moment would be a great project for me and my son james and he is trying to help me in keping my mind occupied and once done should last a long while

can u pull the engines out in one lump, do they come out up or from the bottom, how hard is it to pull off an autobox and ird whilst the engine is still in the car

cant seem to find a company who sell a short reconed block as that would be alot easier,

i belive if u get the rover lump u have to change alot of things

thought it is a great geasture from james and know he is trying to keep my mind occupied

has anyone else rebuilt a freelander lump

thks guys

plus i cant thk all of u enough for all the great support etc and if anyone knows of a good td4 lump going please can u let me know
