Hello.
Just after some advice on my disco 2, any insights would be really helpful.

Many months ago our disco 2's immobilizer and key fob system stopped working. The only way to enter and start was to enter security code through drivers door via the keys. After some research mostly done here ( Thanks) i figured it was probably the receiver do to a leaky sunroof..
Know due to the fact the car was still mobile and usable although it took five minutes to start any journey, the receiver was left as the car suddenly started having other unrelated major faults that took president.

So after four tyres, fuel pump, front drivers hub the faulty keys took a back seat while the finances recovered.

So now MOT is due and we needed to have her plugged in so that we could banish the three amigos that were still showing from hub change. Which i did myself after seeking advice once again on this site (thanks). So while she is in getting diagnostics sorted we figure we should get the receiver done at last.

Garage say not receiver, diagnostic cannot connect with BCU need NEW BCU
£320 plus labor plus diagnostic. Says cannot use second hand BCU.

Now thank you for reading and heres to the questions..

Does the engine have to be running for the BCU to connect to diagnostic if immobilised as would be the case unless the car had been started via the key code and if it is the BCU can you use second hand??

Is this symptom an MOT failure, car runs fine and can be left for five minutes and restarted you just have to wait five minutes to start off.

Is there any way around this, don't need Immobiliser just want a cheap option?

Thanks for your time..:D:D

i know nothing about MOT in UK but, i can tell you some things

1. as long as it's immobilised the tester will not comunicate with the BCU
2. if you can remobilise it using EKA, find somebody with nanocom using the locator and plug it in then...you can even disable the immobiliser for good
3. if it will be final that you need other BCU u can use second hand one without fear from thrustworthy scrappers, just make sure that it's unlocked and it has lower mileage stored in it otherwise the higher mileage will be displayed... once u have it nanocom or hawkeye can syncronise it with the engine ECU and with the keys

just make sure you're not going to some guys who dont know what's all about
