I bought my first disco a couple of weeks ago and lovin it but was hoping for some advice.
It's a '93 200tdi 156k miles. I'm planning on giving it a service in the next few days, new oils, filters etc and was gonna have a go at cleaning the intercooler too, even though i've never done this before. Is this advisable or not?
I'm no mechanic but i have rudimentary skills:D. Is there anything else i should do aswell as this?

I would change ALL the fluids ie engine oil, g/box, Trans box and axles and all the filters the cooling fluid as well.

Put in a new Cambelt, clean the intercooler, check the turbo hoses inside & out for wear and leaks.

Awesome, thanks for the advice Treworgey, disco inferno and the big lad. I don't know when the cambelt was changed, so that's happening next week. didn't even think about the trans box and axles so that's gonna happen soon, (week after next).
thanks for any other ideas you may have.
Shes a tidy looking beast... I like the tree sliders
She is a tidy beast thanks mate, even better, the missus loves it too! which means i can still buy something she hates.:p

i not mention the chequer plate

:D

Looks tidy apart from......

as the biglad says change ALL the oils if possable, devfinatly the engine oil and change the cambelt. (they make a mess of ya push rods if you dont)

;) As above really ........

Check or better still drain and replace all fluids and replace timing belt (get the kit that includes the tensioners etc ....... well worth the extra pennies for the extra peace of mind) ;)

Also get yourself a good greasegun and grease all the propshaft UJ's etc ...... you'd be surprised how neglected this task can have been in the past

While your at it just cast your eyes over everything to make sure all is well and take note of any excessive leaks etc that will need putting right in the coming year or so (they all leak a bit ...... well some leak quite a bit but look for BIG leaks)
